*THE UA MISSED KERR KRIISA: The normally excellent passing Wildcats had just 14 assists and 17 turnovers in their 82-72 Pac 12 Tournament semifinal win over Colorado. The right ankle injury that Kriisa suffered Thursday versus Stanford is expected to keep him out of Saturday’s championship game.
*UCLA IS GETTING IT TOGETHER: The finally healthy Bruins have won five straight and eight of nine with only a more effective Johnny Juzang keeping them from another deep NCAA Tournament run. Juzang was the Pac 12’s best player in November, December and into early January before he suffered the first of several injuries.
*NUMBER ONE CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT SEEDS AUBURN AND ILLINOIS: Illinois could not overcome Brad Underwood and lost 65-63 to Indiana.
*THE BIG TEN’S TOP FOUR SEEDS WERE NEARLY SWEPT: #1 seed Illinois lost to #9 seed Indiana, #2 seed Wisconsin lost 69-63 to #7 Michigan State and #4 seed Rutgers lost to 84-74 to #5 seed Iowa before #3 Purdue saved the day for the so-called heavyweight by holding off a late rally to beat #11 Penn State 69-61.
*THE BIG EAST LACKS DIFFERENCE MAKING PLAYERS: Watching most of the best teams from the major conferences today confirmed what I have believed most of the season. It would be surprising if even one Big East team reaches the Sweet 16.
*NO MORE BILL WALTON FOR ME IN 2022: Walton broadcast his final Pac 12 game of the season tonight. Thankfully, tonight’s game is on FOX with Joe Davis and Casey Jacobsen, which means BASKETBALL commentary and no Pac 12 infomercial garbage. What a concept!
