A SIX PACK OF NBA DRAFT DAY KNOWLEDGE

BOTTOMLINE
*THE SUNS HAD AN EXCELLENT DAY: Chris Paul’s chances of opting out and leaving are less one team with the Lakers adding Russell Westbrook. Earlier in the day, the Suns made an excellent trade acquiring shooter Landry Shamet from the Nets for Jevon Carter and the 29th pick. Shamet and Monty Williams were together with the Sixers during the 2018-19 season.
*THE LAKERS DID NOT WIN THE 2022 CHAMPIONSHIP ON THURSDAY: There is a reason Russell Westbrook has been with four organizations, soon to be three in three seasons. The real winners in the deal are the Wizards’ Bradley Beal, who is guaranteed to become an even better player, and the elite teams in the Western Conference who will not have the drama the Lakers are guaranteed by adding Westbrook
*THE WARRIORS SCORED A SLAM DUNK DRAFT: With the seventh pick they added Jonathan Kuminga, considered by many 12 months ago as the best player in this draft. And, with the 14th pick they added athletic scorer Moses Moody who should have been a top 10 selection.
*ONE-YEAR ASU PLAYER JOSH CHRISTOPHER WAS THE 24TH PICK BY HOUSTON: Apparently, the Rockets were unfazed by Christopher’s seemingly me-first attitude with the Sun Devils.
*ZAIRE WILLIAMS SHOCKINGLY WAS THE 10TH PICK BY THE GRIZZLIES: At one point, Williams was forecast by many recruiting gurus headed for the University of Arizona to play for Sean Miller. But, Williams instead opted for Stanford where his one season was derailed by off the court family issues and Stanford’s uneven season that was significantly altered by COVID.
*USC’S EVAN MOBLEY WENT THIRD PICK TO CLEVELAND: The multi-dimensional big man, and his handlers, reportedly, made it clear in recent days that he didn’t want to be selected by Houston drafting second.
