*THE CONFERENCE OF CHAMPIONS IS NO LONGER PERFECT: Still Monday was the Pac 12’s most impressive day of the NCAA Tournament thus far with Oregon, UCLA, and USC routing Iowa, Kansas, and Abilene Christian, respectively. Colorado did take the conference’s first loss, unable to deal with Florida State’s massive talent edge.
*INDIVIDUALLY, USC’S EVAN MOBLEY MIGHT BE THE TOP PICK OF THE NBA DRAFT: There is no question that Mobley played better than Oklahoma State’s Cade Cunningham over the last four days > CHECK OUT TUESDAY’S SPORTS ZONE TWITTER POLL QUESTION – Should USC’s Evan Mobley be drafted first ahead of Oklahoma State’s Cade Cunningham atop NBA Draft boards?
*LUKA GARZA NEEDED SOME HELP: In the loss, the National Player of the Year scored 36 points on 14 of 20 from the field, including three of four from behind the arc, and five of seven from the free-throw line. Garza’s teammates scored 44 points on 17 of 48 from the field in Iowa’s 15-point loss.
*MICHIGAN REGROUPED TO ELIMINATE LSU: The Wolverines clearly miss Isaiah Livers, their best all-around player, but Juwan Howard’s disciplined group rallied from behind with 10 minutes remaining. Also, there are rumblings that some NBA teams are interested in Howard.
*ALABAMA ROUTED MARYLAND: Jahvon Quinerly finished with 14 points and 11 assists. You may recognize the name. Quinerly was once a UA-Sean Miller recruit. However, he never attended the UA after SPECULATION that Quinerly MIGHT have been “Player 5” in FBI documents regarding an alleged $15,000 bribe from former UA assistant Emanuel “Book” Richardson.
*UCLA’S PATH TO THE SWEET 16 IS IMPRESSIVE: UCLA finished the regular season with four consecutive losses, blowing second-half leads in all four losses, which nearly cost it a place in the NCAA Tournament. Next, in the First Four, the Bruins next Michigan State by 14 points before winning in overtime. Mick Cronin’s team has since dominated in wins over BYU and Abilene Christian.
