The key piece in the Justin Upton trade is no longer with the Arizona Diamondbacks. In a last minute deadline move, the DBacks sent Martin Prado to the New York Yankees for minor-league catcher Peter O’Brien.
Prado was acquired by the Diamondbacks before the 2013 season in a deal that sent Upton and Chris Johnson to the Atlanta Braves. The DBacks received Prado, Randall Delgado, Zeke Spurill, Nick Ahmed and Brandon Drury in that deal.
O’Brien is the #9 prospect in the Yankees organization, according to MLB.com. O’Brien was selected to the MLB All-Star Futures Game at Target Field this year and combined to hit .267 (103-for-386) with 23 doubles, 33 home runs and 70 RBI in 102 games with Single-A Tampa and Double-A Trenton this season.
Diamondbacks Chief Baseball Officer Tony La Russa and General Manager Kevin Towers will discuss the DBacks deadline move later this afternoon.
