Operations Coordinator/ Producer
Kayla Mortellaro (@KaylaMortellaro): Kayla is the Operations Coordinator for KDUS AM 1060. And her on-air duties include serving as the Executive Producer for the Sportszone with Bob Kemp heard weekdays Monday- Friday 9 a.m-11 a.m. March to November and 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. November to March. Her role for the show is to also contribute as the update anchor and interact throughout the show with Bob. Recently, Kemp and Kayla have stepped out to do an hour show together, Extra Point, Monday’s, Wednesday’s, Thursday’s and Friday’s from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. November to March and 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. March to November.
Kayla’s background within the sports world is very rich, having earned LPGA tour playing privileges in 2013. Her rookie season on tour saw her make three LPGA cuts before needing shoulder surgery. During her time away from the game, she had the opportunity to grow her love for radio by contributing on-air commentary to a local daily golf show.
Kayla attended the University of Idaho on a golf scholarship and earned a degree in public relations within the school’s Journalism and Mass Media department. She had a distinguished career as a Vandal both on and off the golf course. Her on course performance left her as the most decorated women’s golfer to compete for the school. Kayla won ten collegiate tournaments, earned WAC Freshman of the Year honors and Player of the Year honors her Sophomore, Junior and Senior years. In 2018, Kayla was inducted into the University of Idaho Athletics Hall of Fame.
Kayla also enjoyed a good junior and amateur career. She is the youngest to ever win the Arizona Women’s State Amateur Championship, at 14-years-old.
As a native of Arizona, Kayla has witnessed the highlights and low-lights of valley sports. She has an enjoyment and understanding for all sports. And the success of becoming a professional athlete herself, along with her pursuit of being an objective reporter and broadcaster, only enhances and provides a different perspective on athletes, their mindset, preparation and ability to perform at their respective sports.
