NCAA TOURNAMENT SECOND ROUND ANALYSIS

BOTTOMLINE
*HEROES (TEAM) – NORTH CAROLINA: It blew a 25-point lead after Brady Manek was ejected with 10:00 left and Caleb Love foolishly fooled out with 8:00 remaining, but most impressive was UNC won the game twice, still outscoring top seed Baylor 13-6 in overtime.
*HERO (PLAYER) – BENNEDICT MATHURIN: Arizona’s best player continued his surge up NBA Draft boards with 30 points, including the game-tying three in regulation, and six of his team’s 10 overtime points in the 85-80 win over TCU.
*HERO (COACH) – SHAHEEN HOLLOWAY: Prior to the tournament, 15th seeded Saint Peter’s was known for its defense, but Holloway’s bench coaching, especially at the offensive end, has produced consecutive wins over second-seeded Kentucky and seven-seeded Murray State.
*ZEROS (TEAM) – TENNESSEE: The Volunteers led 60-54, and appear to be in control, before Michigan’s 22-8 run to end the game that sent Rick Barnes third-seeded team packing early.
*ZERO (PLAYER) – JABARI SMITH: The possible first pick of the 2022 NBA Draft finished with 10 points on three of 16 field goal attempts, including one of eight from behind the arc, in second-seeded Auburn’s 79-61 loss to Miami.
*ZERO (COACH) – BRAD UNDERWOOD: Illinois was a one seed in the 2021 NCAA Tournament and scored just 57 points in its second-round loss to Loyola-Chicago. Illinois was a four seed last week when it beat UT-Chattanooga 54-53 in the opening round before losing 68-53 on Sunday to Houston and Kelvin Sampson, a coach who maximizes his available talent.
